Wah Lee-Timeline

1924-Born April 20 in Canton, China

 

1938-Moves to San Francisco, CA

 

January 1943-Is living in Los Angeles California and waiting to hear back from the Draft Board

 

February 1943-Is inducted into the Army

 

March 1943-Is in Fresno in the 805th Training Group

 

May 1943-He was stationed at the Amarillo Army Air Field in Amarillo, Texas.

 

November 1943-By the 12, he has moved to Chanute Field in Illinois.

 

February 1944-Between the 1 and the 5 he was moved to Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado.

 

March 1944-By the 7th, his mail was being sent to Salina, Kansas. 

 

June 1944-During this month, letters were sent to both Salina, Kansas and Dalhart, Texas. 

 

July 1944-On July 17, Wah Lee received an official change of address marking his new address as Salina, Kansas.

 

January 1945-By the end of the month, he had moved to Miami Florida as part of the 39th Bomb Squad as part of the Gypsy Task Force.

 

February 1945-By the end of the month, he has moved back to Salina, Kansas. 

 

May 1945-Letters to Wah were addressed to San Francisco, either holding for him while he was abroad or indicating a change in where he was stationed. Since this time span begins at the end of World War II, he was likely living in San Francisco at this time. He has been promoted to Sergeant by the beginning of May 1945. According to the letters, he remained here until 1955. 

 

February 1955-By the 20th of February, Wah was living in Chicago, Illinois, possibly attending the Illinois Institute of Technology.

 

June 2004-The Wah Lee Letters are purchased off of eBay

 

September 3, 2004-Wah Lee passes away in Sacramento, CA

According to a newspaper clipping Wah received while serving at the Smoky Hill Army Air Field, later Salina Airport Authority in Salina, Kansas.

 

At this time, he was a Private First Class in the Bomb Maintenance Squadron. Wah Lee attended AM, Electrical Specialist and Armorer's School in California.

 

Previous assignments before arriving at Smoky Hill were in California, Colorado, Illinois and Texas.

 

At the time of this article, his mother and sister were still in China.

Wah Lee was in the 62nd Bomb Squad and the 39th Bomb Group.
